These activites are thought to teach in 3rd year of ESO. These are several activities based on the difficulty that teens have (in general) with living together with rules. Departing from this topic I have prepared two sessions to foster students' reading, listening, speaking and writing skills, always trying to be motivational.

The activities include specific work on the following competences: Competence on Linguistic Communication, Digital competence, Competence on Autonomy, Competence on Learning to Learn, and Competence on Interaction with the Physical World.

General objectives:
- To show an attitude of respect towards basic rules on our society, promoting tolerance and cohabitation.
- To show an attiutde of respect toward a foreign culture.

Specific objectives:
- To talk about obligation and prohibition.
- To ask and give permision.
- To express personal opinion.
- To reflect on rules on our society.

Contents:

Communicative skills:
- Discussing about rules in our society.
- Listening to a song about general behaviours in schools.
- Reading digital texts dealing with rules.
- Writing a text about school rules.

Language knowledge and language awareness:
-Functions and grammar: expressing permition and obligation, modal verbs, present and past tense...
-Vocabulary: rules, society...
-Phonetics: modal verbs (can, could).

Intercultural awareness:
-Awareness and respect for rules in the worldwide society.
-Respect for others' productions and opinions.

LISTENING: You can teach this activity in so many ways: the classical fill-in the gaps, with a previous brainstorming on class rules, giving the words in a box if you want to make it easier for the students or without the words. It's up to you!

Teaching English with Big Muzzy!

When I was a child I just loved learning English with Muzzy. I used to repeat everything that they said and learn all the songs by heart. Primary kids will improve their listening and speaking skills while they have fun and I'm sure that you will love it too!

This website is great to use in ICT class with your students. You can also create your own webquests!

This is a very complete website for primary and secondary education; it is full of webquests and treasure hunts on different topics. There are also reading and writing exercices and tasks on vocabulary and grammar. You can also create your own webquests, quizzes and other activities using the programme "Hot potatoes". I found it out a long time ago and I have used it in 3rd of E.S.O. classroom. It is a good resource to foster the digital competence, autonomous learning and cooperative work among students. It is very motivating for them and ideal to work in swapping hours, in small groups.

I think that most of you know this website, it is a classical! Although it might have an "old fashioned" appearance, it is very useful to apply the use of language in classroom. Here you find different types of activities: grammar, vocabulary, listening or phonetics. By using these activities students can practise their skills and reflect on English language.
